Yellow Rose Border Card

When I was making my Mother's Day card, I made quite a few other colours in the roses too, so this is a card using the yellow set.

I started by doing some ink blending on the edge of a piece of card, to create the base of my card, then made a card base from that.

I cut out a border die, this could be any, but I used one I already had which was a Joanna Sheen lace die which unfortunately is no longer available, but use whatever you have or there are lots of brands available.  I stuck that on just above the ink blending.

I then stamped my sentiment with black ink and clear embossed it.

Then it was a matter of deciding how I wanted the roses and leaves to go along the border and that was the card done.  I kept all the roses and leaves flat, but you could raise some up with foam tape if you wanted.

I have a video of making the card.

3D Roses Mother's Day Card

I thought long and hard about buying this die set.  I had seen lots of cards made with it, and loved the look, but it was going to cost $52 dollars to buy it here in New Zealand.  That is a lot of money! I have to be able to see lots of uses for a stamp or die before I will purchase one and this one I think I will get a lot of use from it.  I have already made quite a few cards and love it!

This card I have kept really simple with a foiled sentiment cut out with a scalloped rectangle die. and then some simple arrangements of the roses and leaves in alternative corners of the die cut.  You could use any die for cutting out the sentiment, I have done one with a shaped nesting die, and another using a spellbinders fancy framed die, so really anything could be used.

The roses I cut out of card from the Gradient Lavender set of card, such a great idea for these sorts of dies.  The green for the leaves, I used shabby shutters distress ink pad directly onto a piece of scrap card and then let dry, it is such a pretty soft green card and in my opinion perfect for leaves.  And then an olive green scrap piece of card for the contrast.  This is such a great die set to use up all those scraps of coloured card you might have! I glued the layers of each of the roses and leaves ready to put on my card.

For the sentiment I used another new purchase.  This is the We R memory keepers Quilling pen.  It is the standard size.  I bought this, as I liked the fact that you can do the foiling on other surfaces and things that you can't put through a machine like the Minc or the Go press foil machines etc.  And you can freehand onto things as well, like journals, ribbon, fabrics, leather, all sorts of things.  For this card I wanted to use the Honey Bee stamp set, but it was just too big for what I wanted, so I stamped it out onto a piece of card, and then reduced it onto a photocopier.  I used the reduction to them trace the sentiment onto the card.  It worked really well.  You can alternatively print out some sentiments in some lovely scripty fonts on your computer and then printer and trace them. I have done this also, for some of the other cards I have done like this.

So once I had the sentiment foiled, I cut it out with the scalloped rectangle die, and mounted it with some craft foam onto the centre of a card base.  I then played around with the roses and leave dies. I wanted the main arrangement to be in the bottom right hand corner and to overhang the scalloped rectangle.  Then a smaller arrangement of just two flower and some leaves to overhang the top left hand corner.  I used some press and seal (its actually the same piece I have used on several cards now, as it stays sticky enough to use quite a few uses) over each arrangement to stick the flowers and leaves in place and then flip over, so i could glue and pop some foam tape onto the parts that will overhang and then flip back over and glue into place.  (such a cool wee trick)!

I have a video of making the card.

I love the look of this card, and the look of the roses.  Such a simple design but so pretty!
