Ombre emboss resist - water bottle inspiration.

This card was to show that you can get inspiration for card in all sorts of places.
My daughter recently bought this water bottle and I looked at the flower design on it and the ombre effect and thought I could make a card like this!

So I got a piece of Strathmore Smooth water colour paper a bit bigger than my card base, and I stamped some flowers and leaves all over it with versamark ink and white embossing powder.  I then did some 'filler' lines and small 'daisy' flowers with an embossing pen, so that I got an all over stamped effect, like the bottle has.  Once I had heat set all of the embossing, I used some Aquatini ink to ink blend from the bottom and fade it out towards the top, to give the ombre effect.

I then stamped a sentiment onto a scrap of white card, cut a strip of silver card to use as a banner for a sentiment.  The final touch was another single flower stamped out, and then coloured in with alcohol markers.  I also stuck a pretty pink posh clear droplet into the centre of the flower.

For a simpler version of this card, I stamped a strip rather than doing the whole card front.  I stuck that down onto my card base and then stuck a sentiment I had stamped and embossed then fussy cut out, onto the card part way across the panel with foam tape. Three clear droplets arranged above the sentiment finished it off.

So I guess what I am trying to show here, is there is inspiration to be found in all sorts of places.  In nature, in other products such as the water bottle.  I have a coffee mug with a lovely oriental look to it, that I have been wanting to do in a card at some stage, so just keep your eyes and imagination open to possibilities.

I have a video of making the card.

Floating Frame Technique - 2 cards

This year I am trying some techniques I haven't tried before. I did the eclipse technique for a valentine's day card, and this one today is one I hadn't tried before.

Its called the Floating frame technique. You stamp a series of stamps of whatever you want, then arrange them on a card panel.  Then you cut out a rectangle from the middle, so that you have an outside frame shape and an inside rectangle that you can use on another card.  You raise the stamp pieces with foam tape and stick them on the front of your card, which forms a 'floating frame'

This challenged me a little.  I found once I got the frame cut out, it wasn't easy to position the pieces back onto your card panel and get it all straight!

I used the Altenew Garden Treasures stamp set and stamped the main flower out in pinks and the daisy flower out in mauves, and did some masking so that I could stamp some leaves 'behind' each of the flowers.  I then fussy cut them out and arranged them on my card panel.

The next thing to do is put a piece of Glad Press and Seal on the top of them so that they stick to the press and seal so that they stay in place while you cut out a rectangle in the middle with a die.

You then need to flip the frame over and put foam tape onto the backs of all the flowers and leaves, peel the backing paper off the tape, then flip it back over and place it carefully onto your card panel.  This is where it all went wrong for me, but i was able to trim the card panel back a little to straighten the frame.

I stamped a sentiment into the middle of the frame, and then attached it all to my card base.

The second card was made with the rectangle you cut out for the frame. I mounted this onto a card base, then made a 'frame' by using two rectangle frames, one slightly bigger than the other.  This I put some foam tape on the back so it stood out around the centre 'floating' flowers.  This idea for this frame came from Jennifer McGuire who did a video of this technique a couple of years ago.

I then stamped a sentiment onto some hot pink card and stuck that over the frame and flowers.

Two cards out of one process, great!

I am really happy with how the colours and flowers look on this card.  You can do this technique with a variety of stamps, they don't have to be flowers.  I have seen a few done on Pinterest that were done with shells.

I have a video of making the card.

I hope you will give this technique a go, although a challenge to make, the end result looks amazing, very effective.  It is a technique I will certainly be trying again with some other types of stamps.
