Slim line card with shading

These cards were made with inspiration from a card I saw Kristina Werner do for Christmas. She used a poinsettia stamp and then masked it off and put shading a darker shade of the colour card she had used, and it made the stamping really stand out, and I loved that effect.  I though why can’t I use that same idea, but on birthday cards (or any occasion actually), so this is my go at it.

 

I started off making two slimline cards and cutting two different card panels slightly smaller than the front.  I used some of my floral stamps, and stamped them at the top and bottom of each of the card panels.  I also stamped the same stamps on some masking paper and masked all of the stamping I had just done.  

I then used a distress or oxide ink that was slightly darker than the colour I had picked and went around the gaps and edges of the stamping and blended it out into the middle of each card panel.  I then grabbed a sponge dauber and lightly blended some ink into the centre of the flowers and leaves.  This gave the stamping such dimension!  It made the stamping look slightly raised.

Such a cool effect and no other colouring required.  The video doesn’t do the mauve one justice, it is so much better in real life. 

 

I just dotted a couple of gems around the cards and then stuck the panels down onto the card fronts and that was the card done.

 

This is such a clever and versatile idea, it can be done with any stamps you might have, and as long as you don’t hate fussy cutting out masks, an easy way to make an effective and pretty card.
