Poppy Garden with framed die cut background - Mothers Day Card

A new stamp I have purchased recently is the Poppy Garden stamp.  I love the Altenew outline stamps for colouring.  This stamp set has the individual flowers and leaves to make your own arrangement, but comes with a couple of ready made arrangements, I really like that.

I stamped out the two ready made arrangements and went ahead and coloured them in, one in reds for a traditional poppy and the other I did in Mauves, as my Mum likes purple and these are going to be Mother's day cards.

I fussy cut them out and then set to making a background to put on the main part of the card.  I used a cover plate die to cut out a rectangle pattern and then cut out a frame using a couple of stitched rectangles.  I stuck this down over the pattern and then trimmed around the surplus to make a framed pattern.  For one card I stuck this down directly onto the card base.  For the other I made a coloured background by blending some Cosmic shimmer opal polish onto a piece of card and then mounted another frame with foam tape onto this and then cut out the surplus. This was then stuck down onto another card base.

I stuck the flower directly onto a corner of the card with the framed background stuck directly onto the card base, and the other, I glued the central part and then mounted the overhang with some foam tape.  The opal polish gives a lovely pearlised background that has a lovely interferance of mauve and pink.  Really lovely in true life.

The sentiments for both I kept simple with some word stamps from the Honey Bee Mother's day stamp set on black card with white embossing powder, which was cut into a strip.

I have a video of making the card.

Glitter Gliz background - Pandemic Thank you card

This card is one of a few I am making to send out as thank yous to all the wonderful workers working through the Pandemic to keep us safe, and to provide us with necessary supplies

My daughter and her partner were incouraged to come back home when the Virus was starting to ramp up, as they were in the UK.

Unfortunately the process of flying home, they contracted the virus, and although they were unwell for some time, they didn't get a very serious case of it. However because they were in our home we became quarantined as a precaution, so although New Zealand were in complete lockdown, households could still go out and get their supplies.  We weren't allowed to do this, and so had to rely on companies to deliver to us, which proved to be very difficult.

So I wanted to send a card to the grocers that would deliver to us, because even though we were registerd as a 'prioriy case' we still couldn't get a slot in the delivery service timetable to get groceries delivered and the two main supermarkets, so this one company that would deliver to us was an absolute godsend!

We also had some pretty dedicated nurses/doctors that kept an eye on our daughter and her partner, and also us, by phone making sure we were ok, so I wanted to send them a big thank you too.

So the card was one of a few I made for this purpose.

This one I started with stencilling a stencil with the glimmer glitz that I coloured with yellow distress ink and pink distress ink re-inker.

I spread this over the stencil in patches, and then put aside to dry.  I have found that this glitter glitz does rinkle the paper quite a bit, so I had to press it under some weights as soon as it was dry.

The flowers I wanted to colour and put on the card were from three different Altenew stamp sets.  The daisy sprigs and some leaves and one flower is from the Poppy Garden stamp set.  I used the daisy cluster from the Simple Beauty stamp set, and a flower and some leaves from the Beautiful Peony stamp set.  I think if you mix and match the flowers you put in an arrangement on your cards always look more natural if they are mixed.

I coloured them with copics and then fussy cut them all out.

I also cut out 2 white and 1 black thanks die cut and layered them up with glue

I cut down the glitter background and mounted it onto my card base, and then went about making an arrangement of the flowers and leaves that would look nice at the bottom left of the glitter rectangle.

Finally the die cut thanks went on the card towards the top of the card.

I have a video of making the card.
