Recessed Snowflake Card

This card I am using one snowflake die, which I particularly like for its detail, but just use whatever you have.

I cut out a snowflake in gold foil card.  I then stuck some craft foam to a card panel I had cut out with a rectangle die, and cut the die out again, slightly in from the edge, popped out the die cut to use on another project.  I then flipped over my front panel, and slotted the gold die cut upside down into the negative space, and put liquid glue over both negative and die cut.  I then flipped front panel over and placed that on my card base, centering it nicely.  I then used a pokie tool to push the gold die cut down in to the recessed portion of the negative space of the die cut front panel, so that it was glued down onto my card base.  This method seemed to work really well!

Finally I stamped a sentiment onto a scrap piece of card and put that onto the front card panel just below and over from the snowflake.

That is the card finished.  I wanted it to stay clean and simple.
You could do this with any snowflake dies, or even some other Christmas dies if you wished.  The possibilities are endless

I have a video of making the card.

If you would prefer to see it in full HD then hop over to my You Tube channel here.

The materials I used to make the card are:
Card base 5“ x 7”
Spare piece of card cut with rectangle die
spare piece for sentiment
Piece of gold mirror card
Snowflake die (impression Obsession)
Versamark ink
Ranger gold embossing powder
Heat tool
Misti
Sizzix big shot
Washy tape
Metal adapter plate
Stick-it double-sided paper
Craft foam sheet
Ruler
Craft knife
Joy craft sentiment stamp
My sweet petunia acetate grid sheet
Spellbinder pokie tool
Double sided tape
Scissors
Nuvo deluxe adhesive

I hope this card inspired you to make something different for your Christmas cards this year.
This wasn't hard to make at all but turned out to be very elegant.

  2. Helen, I loved your clean and simple card. I have loved snowflakes for as long as I can remember being alive.I especially liked your technique. One thing I may have missed in your post somewhere what’s the die you used? Are you able to share that?

  3. Beautiful card in its simplistic appearance. Not so simple to make but not terribly hard. Just curious about the foil snowflake. Why didn't you use your double stick take on the snowflake so you would have to use so much glue?

  4. Beautiful card and thanks for sharing the technique.
I agree with Jarlamane • would have been so much simpler to use a piece of the double sided sticky sheet before cutting out the snowflake.
