Todays card is using a new stencil I have just purchased, one of the Altenew stencils called sunburst.
I started by doing the stenciling on a card panel that was just a bit bigger than my card base and used a make-up brush to have a go at the ink blending to see how different they are compared to the mini ink blending tools and sponges.
I used 3 distress ink colours, spun sugar, squeezed lemonade and tumbled glass and did a blend of the 3 colours from the centre of the stencil out. The stencil was slightly smaller than the cards I make, so I blended some of the tumbled glass at the bottom also where my sentiment will go.
I then stamped two of the flowers and one of the leaves from the Wallpaper Art stamp set, these are really big stamps and the way they have been designed they are not too daunting to colour. I used my Zigs, which start off looking great when you first colour using them, but have been finding within a few weeks some of the shading has faded terribly, so I am not very please with how they have been lately. I think I might go back to using copics a bit more.
I fussy cut the flowers and leaves out, and then got onto making my sentiment, which was using the Simon Says stamp Wishing and Sending stamp set. I have both the dies for this set, so I cut out the 'sending' with some blue card that matched the blending, and then stamped a strip with the secondary sentiment onto white card and put a heart outline each side of it, then cut out banner ends to the strip.
Putting the card together, I stuck the top of the stencil to my card base, flipped it over and trimmed it to the card base, then stuck the rest of the front panel down. I mounted the flowers and leaves with foam tape, and also my sentiment strip. The sentiment die cut I mounted 3 of them on top of each other to give it a bit more dimension, then stuck that onto the card above the sentiment strip with glue. I coloured the two hearts with some sparkle gelly roll pen. That completes the card.
The makeup brush turned out to be good with the stencil, and the great thing about them is that I didn't have to clean the brush in between, so that is always a bonus. I however found it was taking too long to do the bottom blending where the sentiment was to go, so I reverted back to the mini distress tool to do this. It could have been that my ink pads weren't very 'juicy', I think it is time to get some reinkers!
